Inspired by a twelve foot tall sculptural necklace I created for my “Rust and Satin” series which explores issues of gender and identity through the materials of cast iron and satin, I have created a series of monoprints. The three foot diameter medallion of the necklace, made from a large, industrial steel washer, was etched using traditional intaglio printmaking processes. After using these techniques to create the sculpture, I pulled this series of prints directly (each 30″ x 40″) from the sculpture.
