Jenny K. Hager and her three University of North Florida students, Sara Brull, Amanda Campbell and Eric Mendoza, created Vogalonga for the Installations! exhibition. Inspired by the annual Venetian boat race, also called the Vogalonga, the intention of this work is to capture the spirit of the race, in which there is no prize, just a passion for water and for boats. The installation is comprised of approximately 150 sailboats made of recycled materials including: glass, bamboo and fabric. A nearby fan is positioned strategically to set the boats in motion, gently rocking to and fro.
